The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa has had up to 464 crime and safety incidents on campus, five on affiliated property, and one in the surrounding neighborhood, with a total of 71 arrests for major crimes between the years of 2024-2025.
A fourth-year student agrees about the lack of safety that is being done on campus.

The public safety patrols the campus 24 hours of the day seven times a week. Students walking alone in darker places are more prone to getting attacked for their belongings as they are more isolated and easy targets.
Walking in pairs or in big groups is what robbers don’t like to see as they are one and you are many. It is advised to pick people you feel comfortable with to ensure you arrive at your destination safely.
In the case of an emergency, call boxes are located throughout the campus, which connect the caller directly with a UHM dispatcher 24/7. They can be activated by pressing the call button. The location of the caller can be identified to the dispatcher without any verbal communication.
If anything were to happen to you or anyone and you witnessed it, report it to the department of public safety immediately, giving a representation of what the person looked like and where the incident occurred to protect others.
