On April 5, demonstrators in all 50 states across the United States engaged in marches in support of the nationwide “Hands Off!” movement. This initiative, organized by civil rights groups, labor unions, and community organizations, saw hundreds of thousands of individuals expressing profound discontent regarding President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk. Many observers characterized the recent actions taken by the government as a “hostile takeover” of American democracy.

Approximately 3,000 participants gathered at the Hawaii State Capitol in Honolulu to highlight critical issues such as wealth inequality, gender rights, and cuts to essential federal programs like Social Security and Medicaid. There is a rising chorus of voices expressing worries about the perceived decline of democratic values, assaults on marginalized communities, and the widening divide between everyday citizens and those in power.
Indivisible Hawai’i, a grassroots affiliation determined to defend the democracy and welfare of the public, organized protests across the state of Hawai’i. Other areas included Maui, Hawai’i Island, and Kaua’i.
Teresa Parsons, a U.S. Army vet and nurse, said that, “It is Liberty and Justice for ALL, not just a few.”
Indivisible Hawai’i intends to organize additional protests and community events throughout the year. Grassroots organizations are committed to opposing policies that are perceived as undemocratic and detrimental, while underscoring the necessity for transparency and accountability in the government’s actions.
