For college students across the globe, each morning begins the same – waking up to an alarm blaring, exhausted, and wishing for just a few more minutes of sleep
To many students at UH Mānoa, sleep is nothing more than a luxury.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults aged 18 and older require at least seven hours of sleep per night. However, research published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) showed that nearly 75.6% of college students get far less than that.
A lack of sleep can have more consequences than just feeling tired. Experts warn that chronic sleep deprivation can impair cognitive function, weakening memory, slowing thinking, and making it difficult to concentrate – factors that directly impact academic performance.
