Last week, the University of Hawaii’s glass program hosted Evan Schauss as part of its Visiting Artist Program in Glass. Students were treated to a brief slide lecture and a live glass-blowing demonstration by Schauss, with help from student-run Glass Art Family club members.
Evan Schauss has been working with glass for over 20 years, and he currently operates out of his “all-in-one” hot shop on the island of Maui. Schauss travels frequently and has even operated out of a mobile hot shop at festivals and events such as Burning Man.
During his demonstration on Thursday, Schauss spent hours crafting a large glass skull piece with the help of upper-level glass students.
