With the monthly parking costs at UH Mānoa being more expensive than a gym membership closer to home, Political Science Ph.D. student Ha’ani San Nicolas chose to try out Kahala Mall’s new Planet Fitness location this summer instead of using the Warrior Recreation Center.
Admission to the UH Center is included with the mandatory student fees, but parking on campus is an extra cost, even in the summer.
The Planet Fitness gym at the mall also offers some amenities that the UH center does not, San Nicolas said, including massage chairs, tanning beds and for “Black Card Members,” a friend also can workout for free. At the UH rec center, only students, faculty and staff with paid memberships can use the facilities.
