Hi‘ilawe Neves, Contributor

My name is Hiʻilawe Neves. I am a Contributor at The Mānoa Mirror. I am a senior at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and will be graduating in the Spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. I was born and raised in the Waiʻanae community on the island of Oʻahu, and I am an alumni of Waiʻanae High School’s Searider Productions.

I am the Project Manager at the College of Social Sciences’ Digital Studios on campus, a Teaching Assistant at Searider Productions and a Freelance Writer for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ Newspaper, Ka Wai Ola. While my main passion remains in Broadcast and Video production, I also enjoy print writing on the side. Most of my work includes features focusing on Native Hawaiian issues and people, which I am most passionate about.

After I graduate with my bachelor’s, I hope to continue my education at UH Mānoa and pursue a master’s degree in Teaching. I plan to teach Broadcast and Video full-time at Waiʻanae High School in the near future and help build up the next generation of journalists.

Mahalo for taking time to read my profile, and please check out my portfolio and LinkedIn profile. E mālama pono and aloha!
