Hello! My name is Gilian Wainwright-Santiago, but I usually go by Gil. I am from Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii but moved to Oahu to attend UH Manoa. I am currently a third-year student majoring in journalism. With my degree, I hope to make a difference in my local community someday down the road. I love conversing with different people and I think each and every one of us has something special to share with the world. I think as aspiring journalists, we hold a great responsibility to shed light on the things that don't receive a lot of publicity.

I have recently taken an interest in broadcast journalism, but I am not completely set on one area of journalism yet. All I know is I want to give individuals the opportunity to share their stories. I want to use my writing to give the people of Hawaii a voice. Our communities are very divided right now, and I believe we, as future journalists, have the ability to fix that. Thank you for reading!
