Crowds braved the rain to experience the culinary talent of chefs and mixologists from across Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific at the 14th annual Hawaii Food and Wine Festival’s Jade Cocktail Club event on Nov. 7.
More than 400 chefs have participated in Hawaii’s largest food festival since 2011, with more than a dozen events across the state each year. Chefs and mixologists are selected through recommendations from former participants or by host chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi.
As a means to support local talent, the festival donates to all six UH campuses.
“As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all the proceeds from this year’s HFWF will help fund agricultural and culinary education programs across the state,” said HFWF CEO Denise Yamaguchi.
While the rooftop event at the Alohilani Resort experienced showers and chilly winds, the weather didn’t dampen guests’ spirits as lines for food and exotic cocktails remained consistent all night long.
“It’s good. I think even though it’s raining, everyone’s still very happy, high energy. Everyone’s just ready to get at it. Have fun, stay safe,” said Bree Yamat, Miss Hawaiʻi USA 2024.
Kuʻulei Akuna was one of the local Hawaiian mixologists serving her own drinks at the event and didnʻt seem to mind the showers. Her own recipe featured mezcal, macadamia nut, orange, and fresh lime juice combined with three liquors.
“We’re out here to drink. Drink up and eat as much as you can,” Akuna said.
Despite wet and cold conditions, attendees remained on the Alohilani rooftop until closing, proving another night of success for the HFWF.
