Acai bowls and waffles are the main menus offered at Waffle and Berry.
In the heart of Waikiki, where the streets buzz with tourists and the scent of sunscreen lingers in the ocean air, there’s a little mom-and-pop shop that’s quietly become a local legend. Tucked away from the crowded storefronts and chain cafes, you’ll find Waffle and Berry underground at the Waikiki Shopping Plaza on Kalakaua Avenue.
Founded and run by locals, they’re known for their waffles, acai bowls, and mocktail mojitos—a simple menu that hits the spot every time.

Organic, dairy free, vegan, and gluten free without any fillers or added juices, this sweets shop takes it a step further with a mini superfoods bar, giving acai lovers the chance to create their own perfect bowl the way it should be.
But it’s not just about the food—it’s about connection. Mr. Cali is both the owner and the heart of the shop. He remembers each regular’s name and go-to order, a simple yet meaningful way to make each visit feel personal. For many regular customers, the experience feels more like visiting family than grabbing a bite to eat. That kind of genuine interaction keeps people coming back.
“The customer service here is something special, so warm and genuine,” said Leroy Paapaa. “They welcomed me with a smile, and it felt like family right away. Uncle Cali is the reason I keep coming back every week. He’s got the best kind of service, always humble and happy, and treats everyone like he’s known them forever. When he talks to me and my friends, it feels like we’re talking to our uncle, not just a business owner. This place isn’t a store to me—it’s a home away from home.”
Paapaa said that Uncle Cali carries so much love for the people around him, something that is rare to find. Supporting local businesses not only strengthens the community, but it helps personal, unique spots stay around.

Waffle and Berry is the perfect example of why it’s worth supporting local. It’s more than just acai bowls and waffles, though those are also amazing. It’s about the people who make it happen. Mr. Cali and his team create a vibe that’s warm and welcoming, where you’re treated like family. And when you walk in, you’re greeted by the sweet smell of fresh waffles, the friendly faces of the staff, and a wall full of pictures from past customers, each one a reminder of the community they’ve built.
“I really do care,” said Cali. “I hope to set an example of how to treat people with kindness and respect, to leave someone’s life a little less of a struggle than mine was. We’re all connected somehow.”
